Loretta Scott Miller grew up in the south San Francisco Bay Area before it became known as Silicon Valley. In her thirty year career with a large aerospace company, she did computer programming on mainframes in the seventies, worked factory and field test on an early unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program in the eighties, and was involved in systems engineering and test of a digital imaging system in the eighties and nineties before retiring in 1997.
Miller began writing short stories at a young age, but did not complete her first mystery novel, A RIDE ON THE TROJAN HORSE, until shortly before her retirement. When major publishers failed to beat down her door, she put both TROJAN HORSE and her second novel, CYPHER, into print in the fledgling self-publishing industry. As the avenues for new writers in mainstream publication narrowed, the print-on-demand technology blossomed. In 2006, when it had become feasible to produce, print, and distribute fine books from a laptop computer, Miller started her own independent press with the stated goal of finding talented new writers and providing them opportunities rarely available in today's publishing climate.
Loretta is a member of both Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. She and her husband live in Los Gatos, CA, where she also spends time volunteering with Northern California Golden Retriever Rescue.
